ABOUT US
What exactly do we do?
The courses at a RecoveryAcademy are short-term and focus on becoming more skilled in living with a mental vulnerability. They help you to actively take your recovery (process) into your own hands, take conscious steps forward and then take your place in society as a full citizen (again).
What exactly do we do?
The courses to a more skillful vulnerability. They help you to actively take your recovery (process) in your own hands, take conscious steps forward and then take your place (again) in society as a full citizen.

Our training offer is unique!
Two teachers, one of whom is a person with knowledge from experience and the other a care worker, teach a course together. As a duo they bring a warm message of hope, understanding, resilience and future perspective.

For whom?
We address first and foremost anyone who wants to work on their mental recovery. Next to us open to every future contributing citizen: loved ones, friends and (future) contributors.

We consider it extremely important that each student feels good during a course. Therefore, we attach great importance to creating a safe environment where you can be yourself and we respect each other. To do this, we developed the SLOWLI code that is paramount in every class.
Thank you to all the contributors!
The RecoveryAcademy started in Flanders (2014) from mental health center Ahasverus in Halle-Vilvoorde. The project was able to grow thanks to the cooperation of an enthusiastic team of partners and authorities.

Soon we formed a learning network with enthusiastic people from different regions in Flanders and Brussels. The result of their efforts can be found on this website.

We do thank our volunteers who helped shape the initiative and are always ready to jump in when needed.

We are also grateful for the many wonderful compliments we have from inspiring people, in particular: the late pro f. Dr. Guido Pieters, Prof. Geoff Shepherd, the late Dr. Jane McGregor, the "Recovery Innovations Center" in Arizona, "The Nottingham Recovery College" in Nottingham - Julie Repper, Helen Brown and Scott Pomberth.

We also thank the Belgian footwear company Cortina S.A., which from a social commitment supports social initiatives including the development of this website.
